OGRA Rejects Rumours of LPG Price Increase
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has rejected circulating rumours claiming that Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have been increased, clarifying that no new price notification has been issued.
In an official statement, OGRA spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi said LPG prices are notified once a month under a defined pricing mechanism, effective from the first day of each month. Any claims suggesting a sudden price hike outside this schedule are incorrect.
Official Prices Remain Unchanged
The regulator emphasized that the currently notified LPG price remains valid, and consumers should ensure they are paying only the officially approved rates.
OGRA also warned that any instances of overcharging or price manipulation should be immediately reported to local authorities so appropriate action can be taken against violators.
Rumours Spread Amid Energy Concerns
The clarification comes at a time when global energy markets are experiencing volatility due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has raised concerns about disruptions to oil and gas supply routes.
One of the key concerns is the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy corridor through which a large share of the world’s oil and gas shipments pass. Any disruption there could affect global fuel prices and supply chains.
Government Monitoring Energy Situation
Pakistan relies heavily on imported energy, and authorities are closely monitoring developments in global markets. The government recently increased petrol and diesel prices following rising international oil costs, but officials say they are trying to minimise the burden on consumers where possible.
OGRA reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency in the LPG market and protecting consumers from misinformation and illegal pricing practices.
