Arsenal End 22-Year Wait for Premier League Glory

May 21, 2026

Arsenal have ended a 22-year wait to lift the Premier League trophy, becoming the 2025/26 champions after Manchester City drew against AFC Bournemouth. This result secured Arsenal’s top position, leaving Man City unable to catch them on the final day of the season.

The Gunners’ victory marks their first league title since the legendary 2003/04 “Invincibles” campaign, when they went unbeaten across 38 matches. After finishing as runners-up for three consecutive seasons, including narrowly losing the 2023/24 title to Man City by just two points, Arsenal finally reclaimed the crown.

Historic Managerial Achievement

Manager Mikel Arteta became the first former Premier League player to win the trophy as a manager. Arteta, who played for Arsenal between 2011 and 2016, took charge of the club in December 2019, guiding the team to this long-awaited triumph.

Arsenal’s Title in Context

This win adds a fourth Premier League title to Arsenal’s history, putting them ahead of Liverpool and just behind Chelsea in England’s top-flight honors. Across all top-flight competitions, Arsenal have now won 14 league titles, trailing only Liverpool and Manchester United, who each have 20 titles.

Record-Breaking Youngster

Teenager Max Dowman became the youngest player to win the Premier League at 16 years and 144 days, surpassing Phil Foden’s previous record of 17 years and 350 days with Man City. Dowman’s milestone adds an exciting chapter to Arsenal’s historic season.

Team Effort and Key Contributors

Arsenal’s success was built on a well-distributed goal-scoring effort. Leading scorer Viktor Gyokeres was supported by Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Mikel Merino. Assists were equally shared, with Trossard, Martin Ødegaard, Rice, Saka, Jurien Timber, and Gabriel Magalhaes each contributing at least four.

At the back, goalkeeper David Raya won the Coca-Cola Premier League Golden Glove for a third consecutive season, while centre-backs Gabriel and William Saliba anchored the league’s strongest defense.

Looking Back: 2003/04

Arsenal’s last Premier League win in 2003/04 featured stars like Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, and Dennis Bergkamp. That squad, famously dubbed “The Invincibles,” finished unbeaten with 90 points from 26 wins and 12 draws. While Arsenal have since won FA Cups and Community Shields, the league title had eluded them, until now.
